General Session Speakers and Topics

  • General Session 1 - The Heart of the Father

Josiah Maddox - Lead Pastor at Salem Church Clove Lakes and CEF Missionary

Luke 15 gives us a beautiful and challenging look into the heart of God. Like the Father in the story we often call “The Prodigal Son,” God is eagerly waiting for His lost children to come home to Him. Where are we in this story? Are we aligned with the heart of God and passionate about what He cares about most? Do our ministries reflect the heart of the Father? Let’s explore this together in our first general session of the day.

  • General Session 2 - Rise Up: Worship that Impacts the Children and You

Jong Dae Choi - Pastor and CEF Missionary for 26 years

This general session we will focus on building an environment of intergenerational worship that is interactive, creative, and spiritually enriching. Let’s learn practical examples to be aligned with God’s vision, fostering a dynamic and inclusive worship experience. We’ll talk about ways to engage both adults and children, creating meaningful connections and nurturing spiritual growth across generations.

Workshop Options

On the day of the conference you'll be able to choose from a list of workshop options below.

Pick three that will be most beneficial to you, or bring a team so you can have someone in every session.

You won't want to miss a thing!

  • Nurturing the Nurturers: Spiritual Formation for Kids Ministry Teachers

Rev. Jong Dae Choi - Pastor and CEF Missionary

It’s unhealthy and ultimately impossible to pour into others if you are not first receiving from the Lord. This session focuses on the importance of personal, spiritual growth for teachers. We’ll cover practical strategies for self-care, deepening faith, and balancing ministry with personal devotion. Teachers will learn to integrate their own spiritual journey into their teaching, ensuring that they are well-equipped to inspire and guide their students effectively.

  • Child-sized Doctrine and Apologetics

Betsy Maddox - Metro Director for CEF of NYC

Workshop Description: Doctrine is the Biblical truth on which we base our beliefs. Apologetics is the ability to give an answer to why we believe what we believe. This workshop will help you equip the Christian children in your class to know, articulate, and defend their faith. Let’s teach children to stand for their Christian faith instead of apologizing for it.

  • Sharing the Message of Salvation with Children

Josiah Maddox - Pastor and CEF Missionary

Most Christians believe that they should share the gospel. But sometimes we feel ill-prepared when the opportunity arises. In this dynamic session you will be trained and equipped to present the message of salvation clearly and on a child's level. Plus, if you can communicate the gospel so a child understands, you're ready to share it with anyone!

  • Everyone Wins in an Organized Classroom

Louise Rose - Kids Ministry Coordinator at First Church of the United Brethren in Christ, and Childhood Education Professional

Growing in classroom management won't happen by accident. It takes preparation and a plan and regularly reviewing our own progress. But all that work is worth it as you create an environment that allows kids to learn and grow to their maximum capacity! Choose this workshop to learn about developing a practical plan of action and how to debrief and assess your progress when you're done. Growing takes time but you'll see how God works as you mirror His character with an orderly classroom.

  • Your Rights in Schools: How to Have an After-School Ministry in Public Schools

Christopher Kotecha - Licensed Mental Health Counselor and CEF Missionary

Chris has 6 years of experience ministering in after school Bible Clubs in public elementary and middle schools, and wants to give you the tools you will need to know your rights while the door is still open. Choose this workshop to learn more about what it takes to serve your local public schools, develop relationships, and create a growing ministry to kids.

  • Dancing in His Presence: The Joy of Worship Through Movement

Na Moon Kim - Worship and Dance Leader, Grace Church in NJ

The Bible is filled with descriptions of worship through movement. Just ask King David! And if anyone was made to move, it’s children. This session will explore the spiritual experience of dance in worship, highlighting the way movement expresses joy and deepens spiritual moments. In this session you will learn practical techniques for integrating dance into praise times, creating a vibrant worship experience.

  • Building Your Kids Ministry Philosophy

Ben Denney - Family Pastor at Gateway Church

Your approach to children's ministry can look vastly different than the church down the block, and that's ok. But it's vitally important that you have a specific plan and vision for your kids program. It's so much more than filling a schedule with childcare volunteers. Instead you can develop a deliberate strategy and philosophy of how you and your church will reach and disciple the children and families God entrusts to you.

  • Inclusive Ministry: Embracing and Empowering Children with Special Needs in the Church

Ben Denney - Family Pastor at Gateway Church

The body of Christ is beautiful and diverse. Every person has a different story, and every child different experiences. But we are all one in Christ, and we should be prepared to share the love of Jesus with every person God places within our church and ministry. This workshop will equip children's ministry leaders, volunteers, and church staff with practical tools, strategies, and theological insights to create an inclusive environment that welcomes and empowers children with special needs!

  • The Priority of the Gospel-Centered Teaching

Tanya Velardo - Children's Ministry Director at Renaissance Church NYC

Serving in kids ministry can sometimes feel all encompassing. It's easy to get caught in the weekly routines and start to forget why we do what we do. In this workshop we will learn how all the tasks of children’s ministry work together to help us disciple children in the good news of Jesus. Gospel-centered teaching means understanding what the Bible says in its original context and then seeing that story within the Bible’s larger, Christ-centered storyline. Together, we will examine three Bible teaching methods that center your lesson around Jesus. When we do that, our weekly discipleship work is conformed with God's story and fuels the mission, so that the next generation’s faith rests in God’s power.

  • Deuteronomy 6:7 | Discipleship at Home in Action

Tanya Velardo - Children's Ministry Director at Renaissance Church NYC

Parents have been entrusted as the primary disciple maker in the home. It's clear that scripture calls parents to train and nurture their children’s faith, but that doesn't mean they know the best way to carry out this important role. This workshop offers a transformative approach to equipping families to disciple their children, moving beyond mere programming into genuine spiritual transformation. We will present a practical plan to equip parents to be the primary faith trainers in their children’s lives!
